Mater plays supporting role in new TV drama series
Did you know that Mater plays a supporting role in ABC TV’s new crime drama series Harrow
Starring Ioan Gruffudd as forensic pathologist Dr Daniel Harrow, the 10-part series (airing Fridays at 8.30 pm) was filmed in Brisbane over several months in 2017, during which the production borrowed several historical items from the Mater Archives and Heritage Centre as props.
Items loaned for Harrow included photographs, medical instruments and two cabinets, including the cabinet pictured here.
The centre collects and preserves records and artefacts that tell the story of Mater, from the foundation of the first Mater Private Hospital by the Sisters of Mercy in 1906 to the present day. Items housed in the centre include newsletters, annual reports and other documents; photographs; instruments, equipment and furniture; nurses’ uniforms and memorabilia.
Members of the public are welcome to visit the Mater Archives and Heritage Centre, which is located on level 3, Aubigny Place, and is open every Monday and Wednesday from 9 am to 5 pm and Friday from 9 am to 1 pm.
Image: Used as a prop in Harrow, this cabinet was first used in the operating theatre of the original Mater Children’s Hospital in the mid-1930s.
